Energy Southeast Completes $719.7 Million Prepaid Energy Transaction with Louisiana Energy and Power Authority
Energy Southeast, a Cooperative District, has completed a $719.735 million prepaid energy transaction with the Louisiana Energy and Power Authority (LEPA). The transaction was financed through Energy Southeast’s 2026 Series B Energy Supply Revenue Bonds and will support the acquisition of a long-term supply of electricity for LEPA and its participating municipal utilities.
Through the transaction, Energy Southeast will acquire approximately 30 years of electricity and sell the power to LEPA under a long-term Power Supply Contract. Electricity deliveries are scheduled to begin January 1, 2027, and continue through May 31, 2056. LEPA will then provide the electricity to participating municipal electric utilities across Louisiana.
The prepaid energy structure provides LEPA with electricity at prices that include specified discounts and is designed to help the authority secure reliable, long-term power supplies at favorable prices. Savings generated through the transaction will benefit LEPA, its participating municipal utilities and the retail customers they serve.
Metropolitan Tower Life Insurance Company serves as the funding agreement provider, while J. Aron & Company LLC will supply the electricity required for the transaction.
The transaction continues Energy Southeast’s expansion of its energy prepayment program and its work to help public power utilities across the country achieve long-term energy savings and provide reliable, economical service to their communities.
